MindGuyMD · telepsychiatry service

A 60-minute psychiatric evaluation, not a 10-minute intake.

A one-time, unhurried intake with Dr. Andres Vinuela, MD for diagnostic clarity, treatment planning, and a foundation for ongoing care, delivered by secure video to adults physically located in New Jersey. Same-day or same-week appointments may be available depending on scheduling and clinical fit. Submitting an intake is a request, not a confirmed appointment.

What a psychiatric evaluation actually is

A psychiatric evaluation is a structured, one-on-one clinical interview that establishes or refines a diagnosis, identifies the conditions driving your symptoms, and produces a written treatment plan. At MindGuyMD the evaluation is conducted personally by Dr. Vinuela, runs for a full hour, and covers current symptoms, history, prior records, and prior treatment, including what has and has not worked. It establishes a clinical relationship and supports informed decisions about medication, therapy, or both.

What it looks like at MindGuyMD

The visit is conducted by secure video, lasts a full 60 minutes, and is held with Dr. Vinuela alone. Same-day or same-week appointments may be available depending on scheduling and clinical fit. Submitting an intake is a request, not a confirmed appointment. Before the visit Dr. Vinuela reads your intake note and any prior records you share; after the visit you leave with a written assessment and a concrete plan, including when indicated a medication recommendation, a referral for therapy, or both. Any physical exam component, lab work, or imaging is coordinated through your New Jersey primary care physician; MindGuyMD does not provide in-person examinations.

What to expect, visit by visit

  1. 01

Send the intake note. The intake form routes to Dr. Vinuela's inbox; he reads every note personally and confirms whether telepsychiatry is the right fit.

  2. 02

The 60-minute evaluation. Held by secure video, conducted personally by Dr. Vinuela. Prior records, prior treatment, and the questions you have not been asked before, all in one sitting.

  3. 03

A written assessment and treatment plan. You leave with a clear summary, a diagnosis when appropriate, and specific next steps for medication, therapy, or both.

  4. 04

A scheduled cadence, not an open loop. When ongoing care is the right next step, you move into medication management; when it isn't, the plan names what is, and where to find it.

How Dr. Vinuela individualizes the read

No two evaluations produce the same plan. The 60-minute format exists because the pattern adults are carrying usually has more than one driver, sometimes three, and the difference between a useful plan and a generic one is whether the second or third layer gets time to surface. Dr. Vinuela's read is grounded in standard psychiatric assessment but allows room for what isn't obvious from a structured form. The recommendations that come out of it are specific to your situation, not a default menu.
