Why doesn’t MindGuyMD take insurance?

Direct-pay is the trade that lets us offer full-hour intakes, 30-minute follow-ups held one at a time, and 7-day-a-week scheduling. Insurance reimbursement rewards shorter visits and higher panel sizes — both of which work against the kind of care this practice exists to deliver. If you want a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement, just ask at the visit — we provide one on request.

How does 72-hour scheduling actually work?

After you send the intake note, Dr. Vinuela reads it personally and decides whether a telepsychiatry, coaching, or neither path fits. From there, an intake slot is scheduled typically within 72 hours. Follow-ups are 30 minutes long, dedicated to you alone. Replies typically within one business day.

Question 3

What does a Schedule II evaluation visit look like?

The initial Schedule II evaluation is a 60-minute visit, conducted personally by Dr. Vinuela, with written consent and review of any prior records. The in-person component required by New Jersey for Schedule II prescribing is coordinated through your New Jersey primary care physician — not by you booking it yourself. After the eval, follow-ups are 30 minutes, held one at a time, and delivered by secure video.

Who is MindGuyMD for — and who isn’t it for?

MindGuyMD is built for high-functioning adults navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, burnout, or impulse-control concerns. The practice is not a fit for patients under 18, active substance-use detox, or chronic pain prescribing. Mindset coaching is non-clinical, available nationwide, and does not diagnose, prescribe, or establish a doctor–patient relationship. How does privacy, billing, and reimbursement work?

Care is private and direct-pay — no insurer is on the claim, so no third party sees what you and Dr. Vinuela discuss. Visits are delivered by HIPAA-aligned secure video, and a detailed, itemized receipt is available on request. A superbill is provided on request so you can submit it to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement, or pay with HSA / FSA funds. We do not pre-authorize visits with your insurer and we do not file claims on your behalf — reimbursement outcomes vary by plan. Insurance reimbursement is not part of the model. Doing without it is what keeps visits longer, scheduling faster, and your record private.
